Boys Basketball:
Talk about a tale of two halves.
Bonita and Ayala met up in Chino Hills on Tuesday night in the Palomares League finale.
The Bearcats were hoping to cement their spot in next week’s CIF-SS playoffs.
And things looked good early.
In fact, they looked really good.
BHS took a 47-24 lead into the half.
However, in the second half, AHS stormed back by going on a 43-18 run to force overtime.
Bonita would escape with a 77-74 victory after its 10-7 advantage in the extra period.
James Kim led the Bearcats with 16 points, including three 3-pointers.
Drew Sanchez scored 10 points.
Kim (5) and Sanchez (4) combined to score nine of Bonita’s 10 points in OT.
All 12 of Jakson Clement’s points came in the first quarter.
Ayala’s Jeremy Serrano had game-highs in 3-pointers (4) and points (25).
Serrano scored 17 points in the second half and overtime.
Joshua Townsell chipped in with 22 points, including 14 in the second half.
