Boys Basketball:
Glendora has won consecutive tournaments in the last seven days.
Last week, the Tartans secured the Gary Prestesater (San Dimas) Tournament.
And tonight, GHS claimed its own tourney title with a 67-56 victory over Bishop Amat.
Glendora got off to a great start, outscoring Amat, 24-9, in the first half.
Colton Gray’s excellence continued on Saturday night.
Gray scored 32 points to go with his 10 rebounds, three assists, and he drew two charges.
His 32 points was 15 more than any player from either program.
Gray was named a tournament MVP for the second consecutive Saturday.
Max Hilgenfeldt chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Tanner Grable finished with 13 points, nine boards and a pair of assists.
Aidan Shaw led the Lancers with 17 points.
Rayshaun White contributed 16 points and Eli Chavez had 15 in the loss.
I asked Colton Gray why GHS has won eight consecutive games, when he got the feeling that that Glendora might go on a run, and the reason for his great start to the 2024-25 season.
“It’s our trust in each other, especially defensively. Our passing has gotten better and we’re playing in an unselfish way. We actually had 19 assists in a game recently, and everybody on the floor is capable of hitting big shots. It first crossed my mind in the Chino Hills game, because we played with so much poise. First of all, I want to praise the lord for the athletic ability that he’s given me. And my teammates have really stepped up and they’ve trusted me to make shots. We’re difficult to double team, because we have a lot of great players.”
Up next: The Tartans travel to Ayala next Thursday in the Palomares League opener for both programs.
