Bonita trailed 6-5, 11-8 and 17-8 in Wednesday’s rivalry showdown at San Dimas.

The Bearcats, however, would storm back.

Aidan’s Chaires’ pin of Brock Riffner at 3:22 of their 144-pound match gave BHS a 19-7 lead, and Bonita never trailed again in their 49-29 victory over the Saints.

Seven of Bonita’s nine individual match wins came via pin-fall.

The dual started at 106 pounds.

Elias Echeveste pinned San Dimas’ Brendan Krieger to earn six team points.

Echeveste was docked a point for unsportsmanlike conduct and BHS led 6-0.

Ethan Rodriguez pinned Noah Vazquez in the second period to help San Dimas regain the advantage at 6-5.

After Nico Vazquez (120) defeated Nathan Ramirez, 7-0, BHS leapfrogged the Saints, 8-6.

It didn’t last long.

Kamari Baldelomar (126) dominated Tyler Franco, 20-3, to pick up five team points.

Daniel Baeza (132) extended the SDHS lead to 17-8 after he pinned Jacob Fernandez at 1:50.

Bonita would go 7-2 over the final seven matches.

Dylan Garcia (138) secured a 19-2 tech-fall victory over Liam Robledo.

That was followed by Aidan Chaires’ pin, which, as mentioned gave BHS the lead back for good.

Tristan Fernandez (150), Nathan Ebel (157) and Thomas Jimenez (165) pinned Jacob Hildalgo, Jeremiah Laing and Daniel Santa Maria, respectively.

Fernandez (26 seconds) and Jimenez (40) didn’t waste any time with first-period pins.

San Dimas’ Fabio Lara stuck Josh Marshall at 1:54, and Michael Baeza pinned Matthew Mijares at 2:44.

Two-sport stud (football & wrestling) Cole Parra needed just 16 seconds to pin Daniel Monge.

And Vincent Lucero ended the dual with his pin over SDHS heavyweight Angel Castenada in 50 seconds.
