Football:

Pasadena City College has officially paid Chaffey back.

In 2023, the Panthers defeated the Lancers twice, including once at the American Division Championship Bowl.

Both games were played in Rancho Cucamonga, and Chaffey finished with an 11-0 record.

Fast forward 365 days, and PCC beat the Panthers for the second time this season.

The Lancers claimed a 21-19 victory back in week five, and last night, PCC defeated Chaffey, 23-14, in the same bowl game.

Both games were played at Robinson Stadium, and Pasadena City College finished 11-0.

There wasn’t as much drama this time around.

Seven weeks ago, they needed a fourth-down defensive stand and got it.

Last night, PCC led 20-0 into the fourth quarter before the Panthers got on the board.

Half of the Lancers’ six scores were field goals.

Ozlo Rigby had field goals of 33 and 36 yards, and Nico Razo booted a 28-yarder with 2:27 to play.

This is going to be hard to believe, but in spite of losing, Chaffey had a 289-81 advantage in total offense.

The Panthers also edged the Lancers in first downs (15-7), passing yards (272-19) and a 3-for-13 effort in third down efficiency, as compared to 1-of-16 for PCC.

But the PCC defense totaled nine sacks, and they had a 5-0 advantage in the turnover battle.

It had to be an enjoyable night for Flip Fox.

After Rigby’s first field goal, Fox gave PCC a 10-0 lead with his 36-yard TD run with 1:52 to play in the half.

A couple hours later, his alma mater (Pasadena High School) won their first CIF-SS championship in 91 years.

PHS scored late and defeated Gahr, 21-17, in the D-13 title game.

But back to Chaffey-PCC.

Micah Mendoza’s 1-yard TD run in the third quarter gave PCC a 17-0 lead, and Rigby booted a 36-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter to extend the Lancers’ advantage to 20-0.

Chaffey’s scores came on a 2-yard Alapaki Paiva TD run with 10:28 to play.

And with 1:36 remaining, Corey Cabriales reeled in a 40-yard TD pass from Julian Viramontes.

Chaffey was flagged 15 times for 150 yards, while PCC was penalized six times for 51 yards.

Julian Viramontes completed 18 of 39 for 272 yards, including a touchdown and two picks.

Paiva led Chaffey with 25 rushing yards on nine carries, and Christian Bozeman carried the ball five times for 19 yards.

Cabriales (4-for-75 & one TD), Damari Heller (5-for-66), Nehemiah Harrison (3-for-50) and Jeremiah Beck (3-for-42) combined to catch 15 passes for 232 yards.

PCC’s Kaden Taylor completed 4-of-10 for 19 yards.

Fox gained 45 yards on four carries.

Micah Mendoza carried the ball 22 times for 38 yards.

Fox also caught three passes from his former high school quarterback for 11 yards.

Chaffey missed one field goal attempt and an extra-point, while Rigby and Razo combined to go 3-for-4 on field goals, and 2-for-2 on extra points.

Nicolas Uscategui Guerra led the Panthers with eight tackles, while Zyhaire Lewis and Sivaj Dejurnett-Simmons had five tackles apiece.

Torriq Brumfield had a monster day for PCC.

Brumfield had a game-high 10 tackles, including a pair of sacks.

Ethan Bowser totaled nine tackles and two sacks, and he was named the Bowl’s MVP.

Izzy Duncan finished with five tackles and three sacks.

Jachai Pulley contributed five tackles and a sack.

Kimbom Aseh and Eli Moulton had one interception apiece, and both returned the ball 24 yards.
