Football:

The only thing standing between Mt. SAC and next week’s National Central Conference title showdown with Golden West was a Saturday night contest with Long Beach.

The Mounties didn’t waste a single second in taking control, and they cruised to a 44-14 victory over the visiting Vikings.

Shawn Lievense took the opening kickoff 93 yards for a TD, and LBCC never really put up much of a challenge.

Stat of the night: Mt. SAC had a 291-0 advantage in rushing yards.

On the flip side, Long Beach passed for 306 yards, and a pair of Mounties’ quarterbacks combined for 99 yards passing.

Devin Miles continues to look like as good a JC running back as one could have.

Miles carried the ball 19 times for 185 yards.

And that included a 36-yard TD run early in the third quarter to give MSAC a 30-0 lead.

Jayson Cortes did his share and then some, carrying the ball 20 times for 100 yards.

Jack Benson completed 8-of-14 for 56 yards.

Benson tossed a 5-yard TD pass to Nicolas Ceballos with 1:54 to play, and he also had a 1-yard TD run to his name.

Noah Fuailetolo was 3-of-4 for 43 yards, including a 3-yard TD pass to Elijah Crook.

Jacob Bonilla gave the Mounties a 16-0 lead with his 40-yard field goal just 12 seconds into the second quarter.

De’shon Thompson only carried the ball once, but it was good for a 9-yard TD.

Crook (2-for-30), Thompson (2-for-19), Miles (2-for-17) and Connor May (2-for-12) combined to catch eight passes for 78 yards.

Bonilla was 1-of-1 on field goals, and he made each of his five extra-point attempts.

Juruan Hardin led the Mounties with seven tackles, including a pair of sacks.

Darrell Tripline contributed six tackles.

Kalim Mikhail totaled five tackles, including a 10-yard sack.

Darien Jackson finished with four tackles, two of which were sacks.

Juan Salas, Christian Rand, Dmitri Pierre and Teyondre Coleman had four tackles apiece in Saturday’s win.

Jett Peddy completed 22-of-37 for 306 yards in the loss.

Peddy connected with Matthew Dragich on TD passes of 7 and 61 yards.

Up next: Mt. SAC will host Golden West in a winner-take-all scenario for the National Central Conference championship.
