Picture it: You’re a 4-6 football team that had to travel 136 miles to Santa Barbara in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs.

And on the opening kickoff, you lose arguably the program’s MVP in CJ Gibson.

With all things considered, the odds of heading back home with a win had to be pretty insurmountable.

To be exact, Calpreps, the site that CIF-SS uses to formulate the first-round pairings, gave Chino just a 19-percent chance of winning.

That didn’t bother Coach Joey LaRosa, his staff and their players.

Because the Cowboys had a very enjoyable two-plus hour ride home after their 14-13 victory

With 1:30 to play, and trailing 13-7, Demetrius Alloway scored on a 6-yard TD run to give Chino a 14-13 lead.

But some work had to be done first.

On a fourth-and-four from the 20-yard line, Alloway got eight yards.

After a facemask penalty against San Marcos, the Cowboys had the ball at the 6-yard line.

Two plays later, Alloway scored the game winning points.

The drive took nearly five minutes off the scoreboard.

Jacob Alvarado put the game on ice by tipping a pass to himself and intercepting the ball with 45 seconds to play.

Alloway finished with 102 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Maximus Barroso completed 6-of-13 for 68 yards.

He didn’t throw a TD and was picked twice.

However, Barroso rushed for 35 yards on seven carries, including a 1-yard TD run on the first place of the second quarter.

Raymond Chia gained 46 yards on 11 carries.

Luke Prescott caught three passes for 41 yards, and Nathan Serna had two receptions for 18 yards.

Alejandro Maciel made both of his crucial extra-point attempts.

The Chino defense held San Marcos to a pair of field goals in the second half.

Up next: The Cowboys will host Silverado on Friday at 7.

The Hawks (6-5) secured a 52-35 shootout over their visitors from Linfield Christian.

Box Score:
Chino: 0-7-0-7-(14)
San Marcos: 7-0-3-3-(13)
