Football:
What a difference a week makes.
Last Friday, Glendora was on the wrong end of a 38-14 Sierra League contest with Charter Oak in the 2024 regular season finale.
The Tartans were clearly able to turn the page, because they dominated in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
GHS scored the first 24 points of the game, and they cruised to a 31-7 victory at Agoura.
Glendora set the tone early.
On their first drive of the game, the Tartans put together a 14-play drive that ended with a 4-yard TD run by Austin Coronado.
The drive included 13 runs and a shovel pass.
It drained nearly seven minutes off the clock.
Coronado doubled the GHS lead, after his 45-yard TD run with 13 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Coronado finished with 70 yards on seven carries.
Simon Zwick did the Lion’s share of the work for the Tartans’ ground game.
Zwick carried the ball 29 times for 213 yards.
And that included TD runs of 17 and 3 yards.
With 2:21 to play in the third quarter, Hunter Lemos’ 42-yard field goal stretched the GHS advantage to 24-0.
Glendora had 50 offensive plays on Friday, including 40 rushing attempts.
Sebastian Lawrence completed 5-of-10 for 38 yards.
Tim Johnson had three receptions for 33 yards.
Brandon Coronado had a 40-yard interception in the win.
Up next: The Tartans will travel to Moreno Valley on Friday to battle Rancho Verde.
The Mustangs (7-4) secured a 47-34 victory at Hart.
