They earned a four-set victory at West Covina on September 11th, and six days later, Charter Oak came into the Vikings’ gym and left with a five-game triumph over NHS.
That was the last loss in VVL play.
NHS closed out an outright VVL championship by winning their final eight matches and finishing 9-1.
And that included a four-game payback victory at Charter Oak on October 3rd.
To officially close out the VVL title, NHS rallied and defeated their hosts from Rowland in five.
Northview escaped Tuesday’s nailbiter by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 25-12 and 15-13.
As they’ve done all year, a senior and a freshman have led the Vikings in kills.
The senior, Jennylyn Gozun, had a team-high 13 kills, and the freshman, Megan Arellano had 11.
For the season, Arellano has a program-best 137 kills.
And Gozun is second with 110 kills.
Up next: The Vikings open the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs on Thursday.
They welcome Acaciawood of Anaheim.
The Golden Eagles (17-7) were the third seed out of the Academy League.
Quotable:
Northview coach, Zhari Johnson: “In her senior year. Jennylyn has become the heart and soul of the team. She has this unmatched fire and energy, and she rallies her teammates with her intensity and leadership. Her presence on the court is undeniable. She plays every point like it’s the last, and that passion is contagious.
Megan, despite being a freshman, has quickly proven herself as an essential asset. She has relentless determination and ability to finish plays, and she’s earned the label of “a dawg.” Her knack for putting the ball down has made her a go-to option in crucial moments. Megan just gets it done. She’s coachable, tough, and has a maturity beyond her years.”
