Flag Football:
There’s only one thing better than remaining unbeaten.
And that’s having to defeat your rival to stay that way.
Bonita, the SGV area’s lone undefeated flag football program, welcomed their visitors from San Dimas on Wednesday evening.
It was played in front of approximately 1,000 onlookers and several Los Angeles news cameras.
The first annual Smudge Crown game was originally scheduled for last month, but the poor air quality due to area fires forced a postponement.
Bonita took a 13-7 lead into the half, and they held on for a 20-14 victory.
BHS had a 363-188 advantage in total offense.
Tressa Beatty completed 24-of-36 for 241 yards.
And the Bearcats junior tossed three TD passes and one interception.
She also rushed for 32 yards on four carries.
Haley Kurey actually out-rushed San Dimas, 50-15, on just three carries.
Beatty hit seven different receivers on Wednesday.
Brianna Sandmark caught six passes for 79 yards and one TD.
Kody McKinney totaled eight receptions for 75 yards and one score.
Kayla Heinlein had a four-yard TD reception.
Laney Sweeney (52) and Riley Navarro (48) had four catches apiece and combined for 100 receiving yards.
Audrey Schlim completed 11 of her 20 pass attempts for San Dimas.
Schlim had 166 passing yards, two TD’s and one interception.
Leiani Jaime had a team-high 10 yards rushing on three carries.
Anelly Alba had five receptions for a game-high 87 yards.
Jaime had three catches for 34 yards, and Faith Keams totaled three receptions for 39 yards and one TD.
