Flag Football:
The area’s flag football community had Wednesday’s Palomares League showdown between first-place Ayala traveling to first-place Bonita marked down as a must-see contest.
But what they saw was all about those Bearcats.
BHS took a 26-7 lead into the break, and they cruised to a 38-15 victory over the Bulldogs.
Bonita remains this site’s only undefeated flag football program.
In their 10 wins, the Bearcats have outscored Don Lugo, Sierra Vista, Upland, Yorba Linda, La Serna, St. Lucy’s, Glendora, Claremont, Covina and Ayala by a combined margin of 308-69.
Tressa Beatty continued her incredible junior campaign with six touchdown passes.
Beatty completed 14 of 20 for 226 yards, and she didn’t turn the ball over.
Through the first 10 games, Beatty has completed 154-of-220 for 1,619 yards.
And that includes 30 TD passes and just four interceptions.
Brianna Sandmark had a big night as well.
The Bearcats senior caught five passes for 95 yards, and three TD receptions.
Laney Sweeney totaled 40 receiving yards on four catches and one score.
Kody McKinney caught three passes for 71 yards and two TD’s.
Simone Washington had a 15-yard catch, and Laila Washington reeled in a five-yard pass from Beatty.
Haley Kurrey led the ground attack with 23 yards on four carries.
Laila Washington had a 21-yard carry.
McKinney rushed for 15 yards on two carries, Beatty carried the ball twice for 10 yards and Sandmark had a 15-yard run.
Hayden Andrew and Kayla Heinlein had three flag pulls apiece, while Leah Reynolds and Beatty both had two tackles.
Up next: The Bulldogs and Bearcats will both be in action on Monday in Palomares League contests.
AHS visits Claremont at 6:30, and BHS travels to Louie Pompei Park in Glendora to battle the Tartans at 6.
