Flag Football:

What a way to open a new sport.

The Bonita flag football program dropped the hammer on their hosts from Don Lugo.

The Bearcats took a 26-point lead into the break and cruised to a 47-0 victory over the Conquistadors.

BHS quarterback Tressa Beatty led the Bearcats with four total TD’s on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats junior tossed three TD passes, and she picked off her Don Lugo counterpart and ran in back for another score.

Kody McKinney led the rushing attack with 44 yards on the ground, including one TD.

Simone Washington caught a deep ball down the middle from Beatty, and she’s responsible for scoring the first ever Bonita flag football touchdown on the first offensive possession of the game.

Jenna Campbell also had a pick-six for the Bearcats.

Freshman Laney Sweeney caught two passes for BHS, including a first-half TD.

Sophia Olivares and Leah Reynolds both had interceptions.

The Bonita offense accounted for 324 yards of total offense.

Quotable:

Bonita coach, Mike Mann: “We executed what we’ve been working on. We were focused on being the best version of ourselves. Tressa just has a really high IQ. She understands what we’re trying to do as a collective unit. She makes really good decisions. Tressa was born to play football, and no one will be able to tell me otherwise. Defensively, we attacked the quarterback quickly and didn’t give her a lot of time to make decisions. We consistently put ourselves in a good position to pull flags after a completed pass. There are going to be a lot of firsts and tonight we focused on getting the first win in school history.”

Up next: Bonita will host Sierra Vista tonight (Wednesday) at 7:15.
