Baseball:

Fresh off clinching the inaugural Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League regular season title, the Arroyo Seco Sentinels cruised to a 12-3 victory over the Ventura County Bucs in the first round of the playoffs.

The top four programs in the six-team BCCSL earned a postseason berth, and the Sentinels advanced to Tuesday’s championship round at the University of La Verne against the winner of Sunday’s California Outlaws-San Gabriel Valley Monarchs game that is being played at 5 at Brookside Park in Pasadena.

The Bucs were the hottest team in the league, having gone 7-0-2 in their last night games to earn a playoff spot.

But Arroyo Seco out-hit the Bucs, 12-6, and four VCB errors cost them four runs.

Ryan Graves earned the win after tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just two hits.

Connor Campbell (2IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB), Sergio Robles (1IP, 1H, OR) and Ben Griffith (1IP, 1H, 1UR, 1BB, 1K) finished off the Bucs on Saturday evening.

Former Chino Hills stud, Ryker Billingsley, went 2-for-3, including a two-run HR in the top of the sixth to pull the VCB to within 5-2 of the Sentinels.

Jarrett Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Nomar Vazquez singled and scored, and Skylar Chang had one base hit for the Bucs.

Simon Hoffman walked and scored.

Evan Jaquez was charged with five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings to get the loss.

Jaquez didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Robert Snyder surrendered seven runs (four earned) on five hits over three innings.

Snyder walked three and fanned a pair of Sentinels.

Arroyo Seco had a 5-1 advantage in extra-base hits.

Grant Werdesheim went 3-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBIs.

Cider Canon tripled in a run.

Evan Nahra came off the bench, hit a two-run double over the right-fielder’s head, and scored.

Tommy Golbranson doubled in a run and scored.

Bryan Richman doubled and scored two runs.

Devon Eskridge doubled and scored.

AJ Beltre went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.

Mark Manuel walked, singled and scored, and Omar Cisneros singled and scored.

Josh Phillips singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Jason Givens and Cam Andrews walked and scored one run apiece.

Up next: As mentioned above, the Sentinels will face the winner of Sunday’s playoff game between the California Outlaws and the San Gabriel Valley Monarchs on Tuesday at Ben Hines Field in La Verne.

The first pitch is set for 4 in a best-of-three championship series.
