Baseball:
South Hills had one final nonleague game before closing out Hacienda League play this coming week with Diamond Bar.
The Huskies (7-1) are tied with Walnut (7-1) atop the Hacienda League standings with two games to play.
But back to Saturday’s showdown at La Quinta High School.
South Hills scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away for a 6-3 victory.
Jameson Hernandez got the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over five innings.
Hernandez issued one walked and struck out four SHHS batters.
Luke Bauer went 3-for-4, with two doubles, a run and one RBI.
Leading 4-2 in the top of the sixth, Frank Morales’ two-run double gave the Huskies some breathing room.
Paul Vazquez had an RBI single.
Noah Malone singled and scored.
Matt Moreno had an RBI single and scored.
Christian Gomez walked, scored and had one RBI.
Matt Manzo and Aiden Soto scored one run apiece.
Carson Baker was credited with the win.
Baker went 1 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings.
He walked a pair and struck out one La Quinta batter.
Gilbert Cossio walked, had a pair of doubles and one RBI.
Alex Rom-Turbio walked and scored.
Noah Fernandez walked, scored and had one RBI.
