Softball:
St. Joseph of Lakewood scored twice in the top of the first in Thursday’s quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs at Monrovia.
And Eris Garcia made that stand up in a 2-0 road victory over the Wildcats.
Garcia tossed a four-hit shutout, walked one and struck out six Monrovia batters.
Evelyn Talavera, Kate Nelson and Natalie Huelster had one hit apiece to account for the Wildcats offense.
Angelica Oseguera was saddled with the loss.
Oseguera allowed just a pair of runs on five hits over her seven innings.
She issued two walks and fanned five St. Joseph batters.
Freshman Mariah Becerra singled in both Jesters’ runs on Thursday.
Breanna Ochoa singled, doubled and scored.
Morgan Mora singled and scored.
And Allison Gutierrez had the other St. Joseph base hit.
