Etiwanda rallied late on Monday to remain in the hunt for a second consecutive Baseline League championship.
Entering the final two weeks (six league games), the Eagles trailed Damien by one game.
The Spartans shut out RCHS, 7-0, on Monday, and EHS trailed, 5-2, in the top of the seventh at Los Osos.
Etiwanda, however, got five in the top of the inning, and held on for a 7-5 victory over the Grizzlies.
Brady Ebel went the distance, and he allowed two earned runs on six hits.
The Eagles sophomore didn’t issue a walk and fanned three LOHS batters.
Mason Overacker went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Justin Yeutter and Hunter Meyer doubled and scored one run apiece.
Robert Topete had an RBI single.
Moses Lanza singled, scored and drove in one run.
Ayden Holker went 6 2/3 innings for Los Osos, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits.
Holker walked one and fanned five EHS batters.
Nathan Castro got the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in just 1/3 of an inning.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Mike Harrison doubled.
Ebel’s two-out double scored Harrison and EHS would pull to within 5-3.
Anthony Huezo’s second double of the game got the Eagles to within one of the Grizzlies.
Tyler McEvoy, who just returned to the lineup, clutched up with a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
After Parker Sobiesiak was hit by pitch, Tyler Shigenaka’s two-run double plated Sobiesiak and pinch-runner Blake Torres, and the Eagles had their first lead of the game at 7-5.
Ebel went 3-for-4, including a double, run and two RBIs.
Huezo doubled twice, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
As mentioned, McEvoy returned from a hamstring injury and contributed in a big way.
The EHS catcher went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and his single in the top of the seventh allowed a pinch runner to score.
Sobiesiak was hit by pitch, singled and scored.
Shigenaka singled, doubled and had two RBIs.
Harrison doubled to start the rally and scored once in Monday’s win.
Chris Montes de Oca walked and scored.
Etiwanda out-hit LOHS, 12-6, and somehow persevered in spite of committing four errors.
