Softball:
Ayala drew first blood in what should be a fight to the finish in the chase for a Palomares League championship.
The Bulldogs knocked off the reigning league and CIF-SS Division 3 champs, and did so in dramatic fashion.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs got one run.
And in the seventh, AHS got four more to edge the Bearcats, 5-4.
Brooklyn Shroyer got the loss despite going 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out 15.
Two seventh-inning errors cost BHS in a big way.
Gianna Gonzalez doubled twice and scored.
Marisa Dominguez went 2-for-4, with an RBI and two runs.
Jordyn Balingit walked, singled and drove in a run.
Ryanna Alano doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Taelor Walker drew a walk, doubled and drove in a run.
Karson Zavala went the first five innings for Ayala and allowed four unearned runs on four hits.
Allie Lukaszewicsz got the win, going the final two scoreless innings, and getting four of her six outs via strikeout.
Alyssa Doucette went 2-for-4, scored and had one RBI.
Mireya Rico walked, singled and scored.
Kailey Scott walked, singled and had an RBI.
Camryn Van Valkenburgh singled and scored in the loss.
Up next: Bonita and Ayala will be back in action on Thursday afternoon.
The Bearcats travel to Claremont and the Bulldogs visit Alta Loma.
