Boys Volleyball:
Heading into last weekend’s CIF-SS Division 3 finals against Royal, the Upland High School boys volleyball program hadn’t lost a match in 47 days.
Unfortunately for the Highlanders, Royal picked up the three-game sweep at Long Beach City College.
Thanks to their deep playoff run, however, UHS earned a spot in the CIF-State Division 2 playoffs, which began on Tuesday.
They say the true reflection or measuring stick of one’s character is the way in which one responds to their failures.
Well, three days after a disappointing performance, and time to regroup, and the Highlanders looked a lot like themselves on Tuesday night.
UHS swept visiting Scripps Ranch by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-20.
Jordan Lucas had a big night with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Cian Slade contributed eight kills and six blocks.
Kai Vogel added 12 kills for the Highlanders.
Aiden DuFour and Jaden Kodongan combined for 34 assists.
And AJ Contreras chipped in with five blocks in Tuesday’s win.
Up next: UHS will host Westview of San Diego on Thursday night at 6.
The Wolverines (23-13) swept St. Margaret’s in the first-round match.
Records: Scripps Ranch (26-13); Upland (38-4)
