Girls Water Polo:
Talk about your tightly-contested postseason games.
La Salle hosted Redlands in Thursday’s second round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.
It was so close that two of the four quarters were decided by one goal each, and in the second (1-1) and fourth periods (2-2), the Lancers and Terriers matched each other’s output.
La Salle would edge Redlands, 9-7, and the Lancers are just three victories shy of a potential CIF championship.
Audrey Turner led the La Salle offense, scoring four times on six shots.
Freshman Grace Kachmarshy scored twice, had one assist and two steals.
River Lee, also a ninth grader, scored one goal and tied for a team-high four steals.
Candice Cheung contributed one goal, an assist and two steals.
Savannah Robles scored once and had a team-high three assists.
Monica Villasenor had 10 saves in goal for the Lancers.
Up next: La Salle will meet up with Ayala on Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
The Bulldogs (16-12) defeated their visitors from Santa Fe, 1-7, in Thursday’s second-round contest.
