Baseball:
Casey Spencer transferred to Arcadia for a number of reasons.
And on that list (of reasons) included the very real scenario of going head-to-head against Crescenta Valley with the Pacific League championship on the line.
Spencer will get that chance tonight (Tuesday), as the Apaches host the Falcons.
The first pitch set for 7.
Arcadia enters the final week of the regular season with a two-game lead over second-place CV.
The Apaches and Falcons face off twice this week, and in between the two-game series with CV, Arcadia will travel to Glendale High School on Wednesday afternoon for a makeup game.
Spencer is 8-0 with a 1.58 ERA and the Apaches have won all nine games he’s started.
He’s walked 18 and struck out 64 batters.
Spencer’s likely counterpart tonight will be Noah Maddox.
CV doesn’t list its roster or stats online or we’d compare how both programs match up statistically.
The only comparison that can be made statistically is the difference between runs for and runs allowed in league games.
in 11 Pacific League games, Arcadia has scored 131 runs and allowed 17.
CV has played 12 league games, scoring 86 runs and surrendering 19.
As much praise as Spencer has earned in 2021, the Apaches’ bats deserve equal credit for winning 82-percent of their games thus far.
AHS is hitting .341 as a team and has a 2.10 collective ERA.
Arcadia’s 10-game win streak was snapped on Saturday morning, but the Apaches have won 14 of their last 16 games.
Leading the way offensively is three-year star, Mikey Easter.
Easter is batting .500, with 33 hits, 28 runs and 25 RBIs.
He’s tallied seven doubles, a triple and one home run.
Brandon Nguyen is having a monster senior season at the plate.
He’s hitting .407, with 24 hits, 25 runs and 24 RBIs.
Nguyen has doubled, tripled and launched five of Arcadia’s nine home runs.
And they’re just two of a pretty lethal Arcadia lineup that includes Alex Dolan (.419, 26 hits, 23 runs, 10 RBIs, four doubles), Jack Esguerra (.500, 11 hits, nine runs, 11 RBIs), Julian Eskridge (.385, 15 hits, 19 runs, 11 RBIs, five doubles, HR), Ari Nurhadi (.341, 16 hits, eight runs, 14 RBIs, seven doubles, triple), Daniel Chavez (.340, 18 hits, 16 runs, 16 RBIs, three doubles) and Matthew McIntire (.311, 19 hits, 15 runs, 14 RBIs, six doubles, HR).
If CV leaves Arcadia with a win tonight, it would set up a winner-take-all scenario on Friday night at Stengel Field.
