Boys Basketball:
It’s a big deal when someone becomes the all-time leading scorer of their high school basketball program.
But when it’s at a school and for a program like Damien, it’s a massive accomplishment.
And that’s exactly what Malik Thomas did on Saturday.
Thomas scored 17 points and led the Spartans to a 76-42 victory over La Mirada.
In the process, the star senior passed 2015 graduate, Jeremy Helmsley, as the all-time leading scorer in Damien history.
As you see above, the new record is 2,169 points and counting.
Hemsley is playing professional basketball in England, while Thomas has at least nine regular season games and the playoffs left to distance himself from the pack even further.
Damien improved to 17-1 with the win.
Jimmy Oladokun and Spivey Word contributed 13 points apiece for the Spartans.
Aidan Nasser led La Mirada with 12 points.
Up next: Damien will resume Baseline League play Tuesday when they host Los Osos.
Tip off is set for 6:30.
