Baseball:
When eight-win Northview hosted Rancho Cucamonga, which entered Wednesday’s game at 9-2, you had to figure it would be close and competitive.
And it was both.
Rancho Cucamonga got a pair of eighth-inning runs and held on for a 4-2 victory over the Vikings.
Luke Bauer went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits for Northview.
He walked two and struck out seven.
The Cougars got to Ethan Galindo for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Eddie Rocha walked, singled, doubled and had an RBI.
Jayden Lopez had an RBI single and Jacob Billings provided an RBI double.
Wilson Dunn and Joshua Farner both singled and scored.
After Northview got a pair of first-inning runs off of Dakota Gray, Nicolas Sanchez came in and went 7 1/3 innings without allowing a run to pick up the win.
Sanchez scattered three hits, walked two and struck out nine Northview batters.
Dean Curley and Andrew Baltazar had two hits apiece and accounted for four of the five Vikings base hits on Wednesday.
Curley scored once and Baltazar had an RBI.
Eligh Hidalgo walked and scored.
Diego Frey walked and had an RBI.
