Birmingham had to like its chances of picking up its fourth win of the 2021 season.
The Patriots took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh at Damien.
But the Spartans ruined their weekend by rallying for a 4-3 victory.
Tyler Daley’s walk-off double scored Alec Beck.
Alec Beck went the first 2 2/3 innings for Damien and allowed two runs on three hits.
Ryan Mullan surrendered one run on three hits over the next 2 1/3 innings and struck out three.
Seth Sumner got the win after pitching a scoreless and hitless sixth and seventh innings.
Sumner walked four and struck out three.
Kain Alvarado walked, doubled and scored.
Gavin Taylor walked, doubled and scored twice.
Taylor was also saddled with the loss for the Patriots.
He allowed four runs on three hits in just 1/3 of an inning.
Ivan Aguirre went 2-for-4, with an RBI and run scored.
Andrew Ingraham doubled and scored.
