South Hills Claims 3-2, Nine-Inning Victory Over Charter Oak on Walk-Off Error; Former League Rivals Met Saturday in Tournament

Mar 21 2021 03:32:04

They’re not in the same league anymore.

But South Hills and Charter Oak never fail to make the other program work diligently for each win.

For the last few years, the Chargers and Huskies duked it out for the Hacienda League championship.

And while Charter Oak has moved on to the Valle Vista League in 2021, the old rivals got a chance to meet up Saturday in a Pizza Chalet Tournament contest.

The Chargers and Huskies both scored two runs apiece in the third inning.

And after five scoreless innings, South Hills closed out a 3-2, nine-inning victory, in an unusual way.

With a runner on first and second, Kai Penuelas laid down a bunt towards third, the ball was thrown away, and Anthony Rasmussen raced home from second base to claim victory.

Diego Ortiz got the loss, despite the run being unearned.

Chris Ceballos went the first six innings for the Chargers and he allowed a pair of unearned runs.

Ceballos gave up four hits, walked one and struck out three.

Isaiah Alvarez gave Charter Oak a perfect seventh inning of relief, including a strikeout.

Marcos Rosales doubled and scored in the win, and Gilbert Morales went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Will Medina had an RBI for South Hills.

Patick Sterling went the first 5 1/3 innings for the Huskies, allowing two runs on four hits.

He walked two and struck out four Charter Oak batters.

Matt Lorenzano was Saturday’s winner.

Lorenzano didn’t allow a hit or run over his 3 2/3 innings of work.

Ceballos walked twice and had an RBI single.

Matt Salgado and Ethan Milleson both singled and scored for Charter Oak.
