Dawson Netz Throws Second 5-Inning Perfect Game of Season, Strikes Out 12; MHS Crushes Valley Christian, 12-0, on Tuesday Night

Aug 19 2019 08:27:39

Over the past two years, it would be very difficult to find anyone that has come close to matching Dawson Netz’ numbers on the mound.

Last year, the Maranatha High School ace was 12-0 with a 0.27 ERA, and he set a CIF-SS record for 58-consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Netz had a 10-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and led Maranatha to a CIF-SS Division 3 championship.

His 5-2 record in 2019 isn’t nearly what it was last year, but almost none of that is because of anything the MHS senior has not done.

On Tuesday, Netz threw his second five-inning perfect game of the season in a 12-0 Olympic League victory over Valley Christian.

He also has a five-inning no-hitter this season as well.

Netz got 12 of his 15 outs on Tuesday night via strikeout.

Of the 59 pitches he threw, 46 were strikes.

He’s now walked three batters in 2019 and struck out 89.

The win also clinched, at the very least, a share of the Olympic League championship.

Oh, and Netz tripled, scored once and drove in three runs.

Max Blessinger doubled, tripled, scored twice and had three RBIs as well.

Nico Khoury doubled, tripled, had an RBI and run scored.

Jacob Moreno doubled, scored and drove in one run.

Cam Slessor walked, singled and scored twice.

Nick Iverson walked twice, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Brock Vradenburg walked, doubled, scored once and had an RBI.

Jade Low doubled, had an RBI and scored, and Charlie James singled and scored for the Minutemen.

Up next: Maranatha will travel to Cerritos to close out the 2019 regular season when they take on Valley Christian for the second time this week.

Owen Hackman will get the start and can close out the outright Olympic League championship with a win.

If Valley Christian pulled off a shocking upset, and Village Christian swept Whittier Christian, the Minutemen and Crusaders would technically be co-champions.

But Maranatha will be the No 1 seed out of the Olympic League regardless of what happens on Thursday, because the won the season series with Village Christian, two games to one.

Quotable:

Maranatha coach Matt Shupper: “Dawson forces opposing batters to be aggressive, but he controls the pace of the game. This team and this program couldn’t be more proud of Dawson.”
