Football:
A big thanks to RT Tolentino for this 16-pic photo gallery of the Northview High School football program.
The Vikings defeated visiting St. Anthony of Long Beach, 27-20, on Friday night to claim the CIF D-10 title.
Northview hadn’t won a CIF championship in football since 1987.
Marcel Perez, who played for the Vikings football program, and graduated from NHS in 1998, led his alma mater to the sport’s highest stage.
Northview’s offense, defense and special teams all contributed to the victory over an explosive Saints’ program.
Ronal Tebo Jr. had a pair of short TD runs.
Cheo Medina rushed for 120 yards and sprinted into the west end zone from 54 yards out to extend the Vikings lead to 21-7.
Joseph Gutierrez contributed nine points to the win, thanks to 25-and-31-yard field goals.
Gutierrez also made all three of his point-after attempts.
James Arellanes did a steady job in leading the Northview offense.
Arellanes, Tebo and Medina all frustrated the St. Anthony side with their ability to extend drives with Arellanes’ right arm and the legs of Tebo and Medina.
The running game, thanks to a great job up front by the O-line, allowed Northview to control the time of possession battle.
Most expect Northview’s season to last one more week with a potential state playoff game.
