Football:
Rio Hondo Prep may have graduated the vast majority of its core from the 2023-2025 threepeat CIF-SS champions.
But the Kares postseason success continued on Friday.
RHP cruised to a 42-14 victory over their visitors from Harvard Westlake in the first round of the D-8 playoffs.
It’s Rio Hondo Prep’s 13th consecutive CIF-SS playoff win.
With the game tied at 7-7 early in the second quarter, RHP scored the next 35 points to pull away from the Wolverines.
In fact, after Ashton Oaks-Terrell’s 1-yard TD run at 11:21 of the second quarter to catch the Kares, Matthew Har would return the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and Harvard Westlake would never get any closer.

Christian Lee and Matt Montez ran over the Wolverines defense and it helped Rio Hondo Prep to a 29-19 advantage in the time of possession battle.
Lee carried the ball 12 times for 202 yards.
That included TD runs of 50, 91 and 10 yards.
Montez had 12 carries of his own for 173 yards.
Montez had consecutive third-quarter TD runs of 69 and 4 yards to give RHP a 35-7 lead.
Rio Hondo Prep out-rushed Harvard Westlake, 399-273.
The Kares didn’t commit a single penalty as compared to seven flags for 55 yards levied against the Wolverines.
Donald Scheffler completed 3-of-4 for 27 yards, including a 25-yard reception to Troy Seto.
Kurtis Walter led the HWHS ground game with 125 yards rushing on seven carries.
CJ Woods gained 94 yards on 18 carries.
Most of Walter’s damage came on an 85-yard TD run 9:44 to play in the game.
Woods completed 10-of-15 for 123 yards.

Solomon Moore led the Wolverines in receptions (3) and receiving yards (38).
Aiden Delgadillo and Christian Lee had incredible nights on the defensive side of the ball.
Delgadillo finished with 13 tackles and Lee had 11.
Isaac Guzman totaled seven tackles and Nicolas Harrington and Troy Seto tallied five tackles apiece.
Matthew and Elias Har provided four tackles apiece in the win.
August Kellers contributed four tackles, including a sack.
Up next: The Kares will host El Rancho next Friday at 7.
The Dons (9-2) edged their visitors from Anaheim Canyon, 21-14, in their first-round D-8 showdown.
