Football:

Glendora battled their asses off on Friday night against of the elite SGV area programs.

However, there is a reason that Charter Oak is unbeaten, and the Chargers outlasted the Tartans, 42-28, in a Sierra League shootout.

With the game tied at 28-28 in the third quarter, BJ Quiliza caught a 20-yard TD pass from Dutch Burbidge at the 3:25 mark.

After the extra-point attempt was blocked, COHS took a 34-28 lead.

Less than three minutes later, Jayden Harris picked Sebastian Lawrence and returned it 80 yards for a pick six.

And the 2-point pass to Quiliza was good.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Nazir McGlothen got GHS on the board midway through the first quarter with a 59-yard TD run.

The Tartans stretched the lead to 14-0 when Sebastian Lawrence hooked up with Carson Kassotis on a 4-yard TD strike.

Jay Johnson had TD runs of 12 and 7 yards.

Zion Key returned a Lawrence pass 50 yards for a TD with 20 seconds left in the half.

Burbidge would find Chase Martin on a 28-yard TD pass to give the Chargers their first lead of the game at 21-14.

COHS scored four times in the third quarter.

Glendora’s other two scores came on a 75-yard kickoff return by McGlothen and a 16-yard TD pass from Lawrence to Tyson Rush.

Lawrence completed 11-of-25 for 181 yards.

That included a pair of TD passes and picks.

McGlothen gained 146 yards on 19 carries and one score, and the 75-yard kickoff return for a TD.

Rush had four receptions for 96 yards and one score.

Kassotis had four catches for 30 yards and one TD.

Johnny Jabbour had an interception in the endzone for the Tartans.

Burbidge had 165 yards passing, including a pair of TD passes and the one pick.

Xavion Flournoy Trice and Jay Johnson combined to rush for north of 200 yards and two TDs.

Quotable:

COHS quarterback, Dutch Burbidge: “I feel like we just cleaned up the little and played Charter Oak football in the second half. We moved the ball well, and the run game helped us a lot. Our defense played phenomenal. This season, we’ve been able to rely on them. For us to come together and get a big win heading into Bonita feels good. Going forward, we need to get off faster offensively, and play how we know we can play. The thing I’m most proud of, is the way our team rallied in the second half, especially considering they’re a rival of ours.”

Up next: COHS will host Bonita and Glendora will welcome Colony to Citrus College.
