Tennis:

The Muir Mustangs are an up-and-coming program that has an exciting future.

With a coach committed to developing the young program and with a new state-of-the-art tennis complex set to be built in the next year or so, there is a lot to be excited about in Mustang country.

With some quality tennis being played today, especially by their singles players, it’s clear that there is potential for them to do well in the future.

Though the Lady Minutemen won every set they played today, some of the singles sets were hard-fought battles.

This was illustrated by the day’s most exciting set, a second-round slugfest between Sarah Fong and Muir’s top player, Elise Lamond.

It was a thriller that saw Fong hold four set points in the 6-6 tie-breaker, before falling behind and being down a set point.

She stayed composed and stayed aggressive before prevailing, 10-8.

By the time the set concluded, everyone else had already completed their third rounds of play.

The only sets yet to be played were the next sets that Fong and Lamond had to play.

Scoreline:

Singles:
Sarah Fong – 7-6(8), 6-1, 6-0
Grace Yang – 6-3, 6-1, 6-0
Hannah Su – 6-1, 6-0, 6-0

Doubles:
Jennifer Chu/Peony Liu – 6-0, 6-0, 6-0
Natalia Kalajian/Catherine Hayes – 6-1, 6-0, 6-0
Hannalee Trout/Chloe Soh – 6-4, 6-0, 6-0

Up next: The Lady Minutemen are now 6-2 overall and 0-1 in league, with that loss coming at the hands of Village Christian, who they play in their next match on Tuesday.
