Football:
In the last 20 years, Glendora and Northview have met up just twice in a pair of nonleague contests.
The Vikings had wins over the Tartans in 2024 (33-10) and 2025 (22-16).
For the first time this century, GHS and NHS share the same league.
And in Friday’s Sierra League opener, Glendora left Covina District Field with a 31-26 victory.
Northview got as close as the Tartans 10-yard line around the two-minute mark.
But on a fourth-and-9 play, a Robert Carrasco pass fell incomplete.
GHS was able to run out the clock for a victory, that through week six, doubles their win total from a year ago.
The signs were there early on for a potential GHS victory.
On Northview’s first play from scrimmage, Glendora’s Quinn Thompson forced a fumble whilst sacking Carrasco and the Tartans turned it into seven points.
Tyson Rush was without a doubt the game changer for the Tartans.
He caught five passes for 95 yards.
That included TD receptions of 8 and 51 yards to give Glendora a 14-0 lead.
With the game tied at 14-14, Rush intercepted a Carrasco pass at 9:22 of the third quarter, and the junior returned it 45 yards for a pick-six.
Sebastian Lawrence completed 9-of-15 for 207 yards and the two scoring strikes to Rush.
Lawrence also gained 16 yards on a pair of carries, one of which was a 2-yard TD run with 5:12 to play that turned out to be the game winning points.
Carson Kassotis had three receptions for 75 yards.
Nick Norell was 4-for-4 on extra point attempts, and his 34-yard field goal late in the third quarter gave the Tartans a 24-20 lead.
Nazir McGlothen carried the ball five times for 13 yards, and he had one reception for 37 yards.
Miguel Garrard had an interception, and Sebastian Mendoza recovered a fumble.
Robert Carrasco completed 24-of-33 for 347 yards in the loss.
Carrasco connected with Jayden Brown on consecutive TD passes of 21 and 33 yards to tie the game at 14.
He also hooked up with Ray Martinez on a 14-yard TD.
Aaron Guillen’s 9-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter gave NHS a 27-24 advantage.
Guillen gained 77 yards on 14 carries, and Zachary Garza carried the ball 12 times for 46 yards.
Jaylen Brown had game highs in receptions (6), receiving yards (142) and he had the two scores.
Abraham Lucero totaled 76 yards on five catches.
Ray Martinez finished with 69 receiving yards on six carries and the one TD.
Kaleo Estrada had four receptions for 46 yards.
Up next: Glendora and Northview will both be in action next Friday.
GHS will host Ayala and NHS welcomes Bonita at Covina District Field.
