Carly Polanco Tosses 2-Hit Shutout & Strikes Out 11 in Monrovia’s 4-0 Victory Over Mira Costa in D-4 Quarterfinal

Softball:

Monrovia got another outstanding effort from freshman Carly Polanco.

Polanco tossed a two-hit shutout in the Wildcats’ 4-0 victory over Mira Costa in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.

Polanco didn’t issue a walk and registered 11 strikeouts.

Sixty-eight of her 98 pitches were strikes.

Camille Geissert doubled and Caitlin Checketts singled to account for the MCHS offense.

Checketts got the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over four innings.

She walked one and fanned a pair of Monrovia batters.

Mia Massarotti had a pinch-hit two-run single in the sixth to double the Wildcats lead from 2-0 to 4-0.

Maeve Quiles doubled in a run and scored.

Mackenzie Delgado and Mischa Lue-Long singled and scored one run apiece.

Mia Parker and Madison Cardona both had two hits apiece in three at-bats.

Mikalah Ortega double and Polanco singled.

Up next: The Wildcats will host Oxnard on Saturday at 3:15.

The Yellowjackets (15-10-1) outlasted St. Bonaventure, 5-4, in 11 innings.
