Covina earned a spot in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 5 semifinal round.
And the Colts did that by cruising to an 8-1 victory over University on Wednesday.
CHS out-hit UHS, 10-4, including a 3-0 advantage in extra-base hits.
Aubrey Sandoval controlled throughout in the circle.
Sandoval went the distance, allowing an unearned run on four hits.
Sandoval didn’t issue a walk and registered seven strikeouts.
Sixty-two of her 96 pitches were strikes.
Carson Cruz-Babson had an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give University a 1-0 lead.
Amela Hoang-Scripps singled and scored.
Jessica Hu and Alexandra McBride had one single apiece.
Carson Cruz-Babson got the loss.
She went all six, and was charged with eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a hit batter.
Cruz-Babson issued four walks and registered four strikeouts.
Camila Rivas doubled and her three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth gave CHS an 8-1 lead.
Isabella Vital singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Savannah Pacheco went 3-for-3, including a double, an RBI single and she scored a pair of runs.
Lambertz Summer was hit by pitch and scored.
Kaila Dominguez walked and singled.
Isabell Ramirez singled and scored.
Kaitlyn Dominguez drew a pair of walks, and had an RBI bunt single.

The Timberwolves (13-7-1) edged Santa Monica, 4-3, on Wednesday.
