Baseball:
Covina earned a spot in Friday’s quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
The Colts secured that spot thanks to Tuesday’s 15-5 victory at Alhambra.
CHS out-hit AHS, 16-7, including a 5-0 advantage in extra-base hits.
Trailing 4-2 after the first inning, Covina closed out the win on a 13-1 run.
Donovan Johnson went 3 1/3 innings, and he surrendered four runs on three hits and a pair of hit batters.
Johnson walked five and struck out four.
Isaac Flores provided 3 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one run on four hits and a hit batter.
Flores issued two walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Nero Navarro singled twice and scored.
Moses Llamas had a pair of singles and scored two runs.
Marc Hernandez walked and scored.
Enicio Torres walked and singled.
Yuuta Ngo walked and finished with two RBIs.
George Castillo went 1-for-2 with a walk, run and he was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Leon Wang drew a bases loaded walk.
Marc Reyes was charged with four runs (three earned) on three hits, a hit batter and one walk.
Connor Feng was charged with six runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Feng walked two and struck out seven CHS batters.
Covina got to Devin Martinez for five runs on four hits and a pair of walks over one inning.
Lucas Thorpe had a monster game, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
That included a three-run double and a two-run HR.
Donovan Johnson went 4-for-5 with three runs, a double, and an RBI on a sac fly.
Isaac Flores doubled and drove in three runs.
Aiden Ayala walked, singled, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs, including one on a sac fly.
Kevin Mitchell doubled and scored.
Ethan Echeverria went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
Aaron Magdaleno walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Aaron Cordova went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
Alexander Galaviz walked, scored twice and had an RBI ground out.
Up next: The Colts will battle Western Christian on Friday at 3:15.
The Lancers (16-13) edged Savanna, 5-3, in their second-round game.
