Baseball:

The only thing that stood between Nate Harwood and a shutout win over Pasadena Poly was the CIF-SS mandated pitch count.

The Rio Hondo Prep sophomore went 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a 5-0 victory over the Panthers.

Harwood allowed seven hits.

He issued two walks and registered six strikeouts.

Seventy-one of his 112 pitches were strikes.

Julian Rodriguez got the final out for the Kares.

Elijah Ip singled and doubled.

Jack Schugren had a pair of singles.

Caiden Kennedy, Alex Chui and Oliver Marks had one hit apiece for the Panthers.

Elijah Ip surrendered all five runs for Poly (two earned) on four hits.

Ip walked a pair and struck out six RHP batters.

Easton Jara went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.

Brayden Vinton walked and scored.

Deven Gomez was hit by pitch, walked and scored.

Benicio Tardino had a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning.

Landon Scott had a pair of RBIs in the win.

Nic Harrington scored for the Kares.

Up next: RHP will host Flintridge Prep on Monday and Firebaugh on Wednesday.

Both games are set for 3:15.

If Chadwick defeats Poly and RHP handles Flintridge Prep, the Kares would earn a Prep League title, because they won two of three versus the Panthers.

Quotable:

RHP pitcher, Nate Harwood: “The game doesn’t just matter on how you play, but also how you react to those plays. Any game is winnable as long as you don’t let the other team get in your head nor let you beat up yourself over a bad play or an at-bat”
