Baseball:
Maranatha just finished the month of April 12-0 and they secured an eighth consecutive Olympic League championship.
Two days after dropping a 19-6 beatdown on their visitors from Valley Christian, the Minutemen claimed a 13-1 victory at VCHS in Cerritos.
MHS has one more Olympic game left, as they host Valley Christian on Friday.
Through the first 11 league games, Maranatha has outscored its opponents by a combined margin of 142-26.
That’s 69 runs more than their next closest league opponent.
The Minutemen out-hit the Defenders, 14-1, including a 5-0 advantage in extra-base hits.
Dylan Hoang tossed a five-inning two-hitter.
Hoang walked two and fanned one VCHS batter.
Thirty-eight of his 56 pitches were strikes.
Cole Hefner had an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning.
Max Douglas walked and scored.
Nico Villafana had the Defenders other base hit.
Douglas got the loss after surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and two walks over four innings.
Douglas registered one strikeout.
Kaleb Derosier went 3-for-3 with a bases loaded walk, double, home run, two RBIs and he scored a pair of runs.
Gabe Barragan hit a three-run HR and had an RBI ground out.
Will Suslow went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Trevor Rivas walked, singled, scored twice and hit a three-run HR.
Bryce Geeting singled, scored and doubled in a run.
Mikey Herman walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Yahir Treto walked, singled and scored two runs.
Lukus Perez went 1-for-3 with a walk, run and one RBI.
Jayden Morales walked and scored.
