After Monday’s 3-1 victory at Rancho Cucamonga, the Etiwanda baseball program is just one win away from securing an outright Baseline League title.
The Eagles have a 3.5 game lead over second-place Damien with four to play.
EHS led 3-0 before RCHS scored once in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jaxson Milius went five scoreless innings and allowed four hits to earn the win.
Milius issued two walks and registered three strikeouts.
Forty-two of his 69 pitches were strikes.
The Cougars got to Charles Stube for one run on two hits in the sixth inning.
Stube recorded a strikeout.
In the bottom of the seventh, and with two outs, Rancho Cucamonga loaded the bases on two walks and an error.
But Nathan Snawder was able to get Grant Thomas to ground out to third.
Beau Briggs singled in a run and doubled.
Trevor Newman had a pair of singled, doubled and scored.
Thomas singled once on Monday.
Joey Lopez got the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits and one hit batter over four innings.
Lopez walked one and fanned five EHS batters.
Justin Stansbury provided three scoreless innings and allowed a pair of hits.
Stansbury issued one walk and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Angel Mejia’s two-run double in the top of the first inning got Etiwanda out to a great start.
Adam Ornelas singled and scored.
LJ Roellig singled twice and scored on a passed ball in the third inning to extend the Eagles advantage to 3-0.
Derick Kim drew a pair of walks, was hit by pitch and scored.
Jaxson Milius, Luke Severns and Nathan Snawder had one hit apiece in the win.
Up next: The Eagles can secure an outright Baseline League championship with a victory over their visitors from Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday at 3:30.
