Baseball:

Alta Loma took one more step towards what they hope will results in an outright Hacienda League title.

The Lions took game one of their three-game league series, 5-3, at Los Altos.

But the Conquerors made ALHS earn it.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh, LAHS scored three runs and had the tying runs on second and third with one out.

Jacob Castanon was summoned out of the bullpen.

And the ALHS lefty induced a pop up off the bat of Diego Ortiz, and Castanon got Jacob Castaneda swinging to close out the win.

Maddox Delgado started and went four scoreless.

Delgado allowed three hits, walked three, fanned two and hit a pair of Los Altos batters.

Max Herrera was charged with three runs (one earned) on four hits and a hit batter over 2 1/3 innings.

Tommy Lozano singled twice and scored.

Nathan Barrera drew a pair of walks, was hit by pitch and singled.

Either Diaz had an RBI single to get the Conquerors on the board.

Joel Venegas followed with a two-run double.

Luke Rodriguez went 2-for-3.

Mikey Arroyo singled and Jacob Vargas scored.

Diego Ortiz went the distance and he was charged with five runs (three earned) on three hits and a hit batter.

Ortiz walked two and fanned three ALHS batters.

Fifty-four of his 84 pitches were strikes.

Luke Proctor played the role of hero on Monday.

In the top of the fifth inning, Los Altos walked the leadoff batter and committed a pair of errors.

And with two outs, Proctor singled home a pair of runs.

Fast forward to the seventh, and with runners on first and third and two outs, Proctor homered to give Alta Loma a 5-0 lead.

At the time, it might have seemed like a few bonus runs, but after the Los Altos seventh-inning rally, Proctor’s home run turned out to be the difference in Monday’s game.

Luke Flores singled and scored.

Grant MacCharles walked and scored.

Logan Sein and Lukas Spence both reached on fifth-inning errors and scored on Proctor’s two-run single.

Up next: LAHS travels to ALHS on Tuesday at 3:30.

Quotable:

Alta Loma senior, Luke Proctor: “This team really battled for this Win, I’m glad I was able to contribute and get some runs on the board, but Jacob (Castanon) coming into that seventh inning and just shutting it down was awesome. He’s been doing that all year and he’s really someone you can rely on in situations like that.”
