Walnut Secured a Two-Game Palomares League Sweep of Bonita After Saturday’s 6-4 Victory Over Bearcats

Walnut didn’t just pick up their first two-game Palomares League sweep of the season, the Mustangs secured their first league series victory after 9-1 and 6-4 victories over Bonita on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.

The second game actually started on Friday, but after the bag at first base kept popping out of the ground, the game got postponed in the top of the second with WHS holding a 4-0 lead.

JJ Rodriguez went five innings and he was charged with four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a pair of hit batters.

Rodriguez issued two walks and registered three strikeouts.

Dylan Bui earned the save after two scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

He walked one and fanned one BHS batter.

Judah Reeve singled twice and scored.

Joaquin Covarrubias went 2-for-4.

Sean Compton had an RBI single and scored.

Esteban Parra went 2-for-3, including an RBI single.

Gavin Lennig singled in a run.

Brady Horn and Austin Banuelos scored one run apiece.

Ryder Gibson was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs, but only one was earned.

Gibson allowed two hits, walked one and fanned one WHS batter.

Adam Raab provided five innings in relief, and he was charged with two runs on six hits and a hit batter.

Raab issued two walks and registered two strikeouts.

Manny Aguilar singled three times and scored.

Dillanger Sanchez went 2-for-4, including an RBI single and one run.

Adam Lenero singled and laid down a bunt that scored a run.

Aidan Olguin doubled and scored.

Jacob Rodriguez singled and scored.

JJ Rodriguez helped his own cause by driving in a run on a sac fly.

Dillan Lobo walked and scored.

With two games to play, Walnut is now just one-game back of Claremont for third place.

And the Wolfpack face off with first-place Ayala next week, while the Mustangs battle Diamond Bar.

Up next: The Bearcats finish out the regular season with two against second-place Glendora.

GHS will host on Wednesday and BHS welcomes the Tartans on Friday.
