Baseball:
La Canada leapt the next to last hurdle in their quest for a Rio Hondo League championship.
The Spartans edged their hosts from San Marino, 3-2, on Friday.
With two games two RHL games to play against Monrovia in two weeks, LCHS and MHS have one league loss apiece.
Scott Burns went 3 1/3 innings and he was charged with one unearned run on two hits and six walks.
Fritz Phillips provided 3 2/3 scoreless innings, and he allowed one run on six hits and a walk.
Parker Wilson walked and doubled.
Chase Mena went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Aldo Cali drew three walks, singled and scored.
Alex Lumino walked and singled.
JT Lu-Morris drove in a run on a sac fly.
Chace Lee walked and scored.
Miles Morning, Charlie Danenhauer and William Stenvick had one single apiece for the Titans.
JT Lu-Morris went four innings and he was charged with two runs on seven hits and three hit batters.
He issued one walk and registered five strikeouts.
La Canada got to Alex Lumino for one run on four hits.
Lumino didn’t walk a batter and struck out a trio of Spartans.
Will Park went 3-for-4, including an RBI single in the top of the second to give La Canada a 1-0 lead.
One inning later, and Chase Regan doubled the lead with an RBI single.
In the top of the fifth, Ross Piken doubled in what turned out to be the game winning run.
Piken was hit by pitch twice on Friday.
Austin Loughrin singled and scored.
Benji Geller walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Bradon Mohaghegh went 2-for-3.
Joe Bell and Finn Flowerhogan had one single apiece in the win.
Monrovia defeated South Pasadena, 4-1, on Friday.
And the Wildcats have four RHL games to play.
They’ll face off with San Marino this coming week for two, and finish out the regular season with a pair of games against La Canada.
