Glendora Secured a 5-3 Victory at Claremont in First of a Two-Game Series; Tartans Catch Wolfpack for Second Place

Just when you thought Glendora might be petering out, they prove their doubters wrong.

The Tartans opened Palomares League play 0-3 with losses to Ayala (twice) and Walnut by a combined margin of 26-5.

At the time, the Mustangs were 4-11 when they defeated the Tartans, 8-2, on April 2nd.

Since then, GHS has won five consecutive games, including four in league play.

They defeated Walnut (12-0) in game two of their two-game Palomares League series.

Glendora swept Diamond Bar (5-1 & 12-0) and edged Monrovia (4-3) in 10 innings this past Saturday.

And that gets us to Wednesday.

The Tartans traveled to second-place Claremont and they never trailed in a 5-3 victory.

The win allowed GHS to catch CHS in second place with three league games to play.

After Friday’s showdown at GHS, Glendora finishes Palomares League play with two games against Bonita (10-12-1, 2-5) and Claremont battles Ayala (19-2, 7-0).

Brady Houlton got the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits over five innings.

Houlton issued a pair of walks and registered seven strikeouts.

John Seader singled three times and scored a pair of runs.

Riley Cooper doubled and scored.

Tanner Grable walked, singled and scored.

Judge Garcia doubled in a run in the top of the fourth.

With a 2-1 lead in the fifth, Santiago Garza had a two-run double.

Sebastian Lawrence’s RBI single in the seventh gave GHS a 5-3 lead.

Lawrence finished 2-for-4.

Aidan Yamazaki walked, singled and scored.

Tanner Grable earned the win after going 4 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on six hits.

Grable walked three and fanned a pair of Wolfpack batters.

Jude Garcia (1 2/3 IP) and Sebastian Lawrence (1) combined to provide 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief and struck out three.

Dane Dorman walked and had an RBI single.

Patrick Delgado walked, singled and scored.

Nico Vasquez had an RBI single in the fifth inning to pull Claremont to within 4-2 of GHS.

Reed Miller singled, scored and he was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Claremont only trailed 4-3.

Kai Messner and Brady Houlton walked and singled.

Evan Blacksher singled.

Alex Gonzales scored one run.

Up next: The Tartans host the Wolfpack on Friday at 3:30.
