Baseball:
The Upland baseball program has made massive forward steps in 2026.
Two years after some in-house drama, and one season after going 5-22, the Highlanders have already tripled their Baseline League win total.
UHS got out to a 9-2 lead and they’d hold on for a 9-6 victory at Damien in the first of a three-game series.
Upland improved to 3-4 in league, and they sit just one-game back of Chino Hills and Damien for second in the Baseline League standings.
Ryan Wentworth was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batter in just 2/3 of an inning.
Upland got to Andrew Martin and Isaiah Seawright for two runs apiece on five combined hits.
Carson Kinnick drew three walks and scored two runs.
And with a three-run lead in the top of the fourth inning, Kinnick hit a grand slam to extend the UHS advantage to 9-2.
Darien Maung singled twice and scored.
Andrew Armendarez drew two walks, was hit by pitch and scored a pair of runs.
Andrew Weber’s three-run double in the top of the first gave the Highlanders a 5-0 lead.
Steven Alejandre singled and scored.
Ryan May walked and scored.
Angelo Mantilla was hit by pitch with the bases loaded, singled and scored.
Dylan Trejo singled and drove in a run on a first-inning sac fly.
Tommy Lopez singled and scored.
Andrew Weber got the win after going 3 1/3 innings, and allowing three runs on three hits and hitting one batter.
Weber was one of seven Upland pitchers, and he issued two walks and registered five strikeouts.
Elius Kelly walked, singled, doubled and scored.
Aiden East singled in a run, tripled and scored.
Gino Tarzia had an RBI double.
Maxwell Ewers walked, doubled and scored.
Grant Corder drew a pair of walks, was hit by pitch, doubled and scored two runs.
Michael Mansour had an RBI ground out.
Brady Bickham walked, singled, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Ryan Gonzalez walked, singled in a run and drove in another on a sac fly.
Up next: The Spartans head to Upland on Wednesday at 3:30.
