Baseball:
La Canada improved its Rio Hondo League record to 7-1 on Friday.
The Spartans cruised to a 5-1 victory over their visitors from Temple City.
With approximately two weeks to play in the regular season, Monrovia and La Canada have one RHL loss while San Marino had two.
But back to Friday.
Scott Burns went five scoreless to earn the win and scattered three hits.
Burns issued six walks and registered seven strikeouts.
Benji Geller provided two innings in relief and he was charged with one run on three hits.
Geller didn’t give a free pass and struck out a pair of Rams.
Nineteen of Geller’s 23 pitches were strikes.
Peyton Navarat went 2-for-3 with a walk and one RBI.
Nate Platon drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.
Bodie Kelley went 2-for-3.
Tyler Womack got the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over five innings.
Womack issued one walk and registered two strikeouts.
Gavin Huang provided one scoreless and hitless inning in relief.
Huang walked one and fanned one Spartan.
Joe Bell walked, scored twice and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Finn Flowerhogan singled twice and scored.
Ethan Wong went 2-for-3 with a three-run HR in the third inning that gave LCHS a 5-0 lead.
Chase Regan dropped a bunt in the second inning that scored a run and walked.
Ross Piken doubled and scored.
Benji Geller and Brandon Mohaghegh had one single apiece in Friday’s win.
Up next: The Spartans battle La Canada on Saturday morning at 10 at Arcadia County Park.
