Baseball:
It’s crazy how quickly a program’s fate can change so dramatically from game to game.
Just two weeks ago, the Marshall baseball program dropped a pair of Mission Valley League games to Arroyo and South El Monte by a combined margin of 27-2.
The Eagles had the past 13 days with that bitter taste in their collective mouth.
And on Wednesday, they spotted their visitors from Gabrielino a pair of runs in the top of the first innings.
Marshall, though, rallied to secure a 4-3 victory.
They got one run apiece in the bottom of the first and third innings.
And the two runs they scored in the bottom of the fifth turned out to be the difference.
Marshall is now just one-game back of first-place Arroyo and Mountain View in the MVL standings.
Elijah Lain went four innings and he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a hit batter.
Lain issued three walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Bryce Steinberg was credited with the win after going three innings and surrendering one run on three hits.
Steinberg walk one and fanned one GHS batter.
Ethan Tran singled, doubled and scored.
Peter Ruiz walked and scored.
Nathan Tran went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and one RBI.
Robert Mercado drew three walks and scored.
Carlos Ruiz went 2-for-4.
Ethan and Nathan Tran combined to go three innings, and both were charged with an unearned run on two hits.
Neither allowed a walk, and Ethan struck out five, while Nathan fanned one Eagle.
Ruiz got the loss, allowing a pair of unearned runs on two hits and two walks over three innings.
Ruiz struck out three.
Lain went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Chris Romero singled, doubled and scored.
Eli Macias walked and singled.
Ian Macready scored half of the Eagles four runs.
Liam Wahlstrom singled in the win.
Up next: The Eagles travel to Rosemead on Friday at 3:30.
