Baseball:

Glendora opened Palomares League play at 0-3.

In the last two games, however, a pair of two-sport studs have the Tartans just one-game back of Claremont for second place.

Last Friday, GHS quarterback Sebastian Lawrence tossed a one-hit shutout and did some damage at the plate in a 12-0 win over Walnut.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and Glendora forward Tanner Grable dominated on the mound and with a bat in his hand in the Tartans 5-1 victory at Diamond Bar.

Grable went six strong, allowing one run on three hits to earn the win.

Grable issued three walks and registered four strikeouts.

Jude Garcia got the final three outs, including to via strikeout.

At the plate, Grable went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple in the fifth, and an RBI double in the seventh.

Offensive for DBHS, Kyle Shibley had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second to pull to within 2-1 of Glendora.

Dominic Tortorelli, Jacob Smith and Dominic DeGuzman had one single apiece.

Matias Gallardo walked and scored.

Stetson Sherman got stuck with the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Sherman issued three walks and registered three strikeouts.

Riley Cooper and John Seader and both went 2-for-4 and scored two runs apiece.

The No. 1 through No. 3 in the GHS lineup (Cooper, Seader & Grable) went a combined 7-for-12 with four runs and two RBIs.

Aidan Yamazaki singled, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Diego Garza drew a pair of walks and singled.

Jude Garcia and Troy Norman had one single apiece in the win.

Up next: The Brahmas travel to Glendora on Friday.

Quotable:

GHS pitcher, Tanner Grable: “Last week, I went 0-for-7 at the plate, and I didn’t get out of the second inning at Walnut. Those things happen in baseball, and you need to have a short memory. Today, I was ready to go, and after striking out the first batter, I felt pretty confident. Troy Norman made a great play in center for me, and John Seader made some plays at shortstop. Our offense really contributed and we’ve been more focused over the last two wins. I think we just kind of showed up to Walnut last week thinking we were going to win, and we won’t allow that to happen again.”
