Baseball:

It looked like Damien was going to secure game two of their three-game Baseline League series with Etiwanda just two days after an 8-5 victory at EHS.

However, the Eagles scored three times in the top of the fifth and got two more in the seventh to claim a 5-3 road victory.

Damien scored once in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3, and they had runners on second and third with one out.

On came Dylan Villegas, and the EHS lefty struck out a pair of Spartans to escape the jam.

Landon Durmisevich went the first 5 1/3 innings, and he was charged with three runs (one earned) on eight hits.

He issued three walks and registered three strikeouts.

Villegas got the final five outs without allowing a run or a hit.

He walked one and fanned three DHS batters.

Gino Tarzia walked, had an RBI single in the bottom of the second and scored.

Three batters later, and Aiden East doubled in a run to give Damien a 2-0 lead.

Russell Del Castillo’s RBI double in the sixth got the Spartans even at 3-3.

Elius Kelly went 3-for-4.

Brady Bickham singled and scored a pair of runs.

Michael Mansour drew a pair of walks and singled.

Jacob Campos started and he went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

Campos didn’t issue a walk and registered five strikeouts.

Isaiah Seawright was saddled with the loss after surrendering a pair of unearned runs on three hits over two innings of work.

He didn’t give a free pass and struck out three EHS batters.

Peyton Ramos got the Eagles on the board with his RBI double in the top of the fifth.

Two batters later, LJ Roellig’s two-out two-run single gave Etiwanda its first lead of the game at 3-2.

Fast forward to the top of the seventh and Nathan Perez reached base on an error.

After an Adam Ornelas single that advanced Perez to third, Seawright got a huge strikeout.

And with two outs, he had Kim down in the count.

Kim, though, blistered a ball up the middle and allowed the fourth and fifth runs to score.

Ornelas finished with two hits and scored twice.

Angel Mejia went 2-for-4.

James Milam singled and scored.

Jaxson Milius singled.

Ramos scored once to go along with his RBI double.

Up next: The Spartans travel to EHS for the third and deciding game of this series.
