Baseball:
Maranatha is inching its way towards yet another Olympic League championship.
The Minutemen improved to 6-1 in league play after Tuesday’s 8-0 victory over their visitors from Village Christian.
MHS and Valley Christian both have one loss each, but Maranatha has six league wins as compared to three for the Crusaders.
And you won’t see this often, but the Minutemen were able to shut an opponent out in spite of surrendering nine hits.
Dylan Hoang went five scoreless and allowed nine hits.
He issued a pair of walks and registered nine strikeouts.
Michael Herman and Kaiden Lai provided one scoreless and hitless inning apiece and they combined to strike out three Village Christian batters.
Gabriel Bagasao had one-third of the Crusaders nine hits, including a double.
Noah Porter, O’Neill Monahan, Ethan Rodriguez, Cruz Severo, Joshua Yoon and Nico Cigliuti had one hit apiece in the loss.
Noah Choe got the loss after allowing five runs on six hits over four innings.
Choe walked three and fanned three Maranatha batters.
Jayden Morales went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, triple, run and two RBIs.
Trevor Rivas had a pair of RBI singles and he drove in a third run on a sac fly.
Bryce Geeting walked, tripled, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Michael Herman walked, was hit by pitch, singled in a run and scored.
Gabe Barragan and Yahir Treto walked and scored one run apiece.
Will Suslow singled and was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Kaleb Derosier doubled.
Will Higginbotham, Noe Zavala and Kaiden Lai scored one run apiece.
Up next: MHS travels to Village Christian on Thursday at 3:30.
