Baseball:
With an 8-5 victory at Etiwanda and Monday’s Chino Hills-Los Osos game being postponed until today, Damien has taken over the Baseline League penthouse.
The Spartans had a 7-0 lead before Etiwanda scored (four runs) in the bottom of the fourth inning.
DHS handed EHS their first league setback, and they improved to 4-0 in league play.
Damien sent nine players to the plate in the top of the first inning and scored five runs.
The first six batters singled, walked, was hit by pitch, singled, homered and doubled to start the game.
Michael Aleman was charged with seven runs on seven hits over five innings.
Aleman issued three walks and registered six strikeouts.
Ryan Gonzalez was hit by pitch, had a two-run single in the first inning and scored.
Brady Bickham drew a pair of walks, and his three-run HR in the first extended the DHS lead to 5-0.
Michael Mansour singled three times and scored.
Elius Kelley was plunked twice, singled and scored.
Maxwell Ewers singled and scored.
Tyler Swilling walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Grant Corder walked, scored and had one RBI.
Jackson Annigain and Oliver Hines had one RBI apiece and Gino Tarzia doubled.
Ryan Wentworth went four innings, and he was charged with four runs (three earned) on five hits.
Wentworth walked two and fanned five EHS batters.
Ethan Chavez got the final nine outs, allowing one run on three hits.
Chavez issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
Adam Ornelas walked and collected a pair of singles.
Derick Kim drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.
Jaxson Milius doubled and scored.
James Milam went 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Frank Gonzalez, Nathan Perez and Peyton Ramos had RBI singles in the four-run fourth inning.
