Jacob Smith Goes Distance in Diamond Bar’s 4-3 Palomares League Victory Over BHS; Five Errors Proved Costly for Bearcats

Baseball:

Diamond Bar got out to a 4-1 lead in Friday’s second of a two-game Palomares League series with their visitors from Bonita.

And the Brahmas would hold on for the 4-3 victory.

They evened the series at 1-1, and they improved to 2-2 in league games.

The Bearcats scored once in the top of the second, sixth and seventh innings.

BHS actually out-hit DBHS, 5-3, including a 3-0 edge in extra-base hits, but five errors cost them three runs.

Adam Raab didn’t get much help.

He went four innings and allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits.

Raab didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.

Taylor Kapadia provided 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings in relief, including a strikeout.

Jeremiah Jung singled and scored two runs.

Elijah Kim walked and singled.

Dominic Deguzman walked, was hit by pitch and scored a pair of runs.

Jacob Smith had an RBI single in the third to tie the game at 1-1.

Cole Cerasuolo drove in a run on a sac fly.

Smith went the distance to earn the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.

He didn’t collect a walk or strikeout.

Reed Tibbetts doubled and scored.

Andrew Lomeli drove in a run on a sac fly to give Bonita a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

Sean Compton doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Gavin Lennig singled in a run in the sixth.

Austin Banuelos went 2-for-3, and he had an RBI double in the seventh to pull BHS to within 4-3 of DBHS.

Up next: The Bearcats travel to Laguna Beach this morning (Saturday) at 10.
