Baseball:
West Covina opened Valle Vista League play with a 7-0 victory at Wilson.
The Bulldogs scored seven times in the fifth inning, and that was far more than Levi Ruiz would need.
Ruiz tossed a five-hit shutout.
He issued four walks and registered four strikeouts.
Jake Perez had two of Wilson’s five hits.
Offensively, the Bulldogs sent 11 batters to the plate in the seven-run fifth inning.
DiMaggio Beas singled, doubled in a run and scored.
Joaquin Diaz doubled in a run and scored.
Ethan Okazaki singled twice and scored.
Levi Ruiz singled and scored.
Griffey Moncada walked and scored.
Joseph Castillo went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and two-run single.
Gabriel Lara had an RBI ground out and scored.
