Max Bailon Goes Distance & Allowed One Run in Downey’s 5-1 Victory Over Claremont; Eddie Causley had Three Hits & Two RBIs

Baseball:

Downey snapped Claremont’s nine-game win streak on Friday.

The Vikings rode the arm of Max Bailon to defeat the SGV area’s only 12-win program.

Bailon went the distance and allowed one run on four hits.

He issued a pair of walks and registered one strikeout.

Fifty-two of his 82 pitches were strikes.

Jacob Lucas drew a pair of walks, including one in the top of the fourth inning.

His pinch runner advanced to third on a sac bunt by Evan Blacksher and a Dane Dorman fly ball to right.

CHS got their lone run of the game on a wild pitch.

Reed Miller, Brady Houlton, Kai Messner and Dean Holtan had one single apiece to account for the CHS offense.

Walter Bilau got the loss after being charged with three unearned runs on four hits over five innings.

Bilau walked one and fanned a trio of Vikings.

Downey got to Gil Perez for two runs on one hit and a pair of walks in the sixth inning.

Perez got two of his three outs via strikeout.

Chris Palacios walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Eddie Causley went 3-for-4 with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Miguel Fernandez singled and scored.

Nick Segura went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Brady Bejines walked and scored.

Caleb Monroe walked and had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.

Sebastian Cortez reached base to lead off the fifth inning.

He moved to second on a Palacios single.

And Cortez would advance to third and eventually score on another CHS error.

Up next: The Wolfpack battle Littlerock this morning (Saturday) at 10.
