Baseball:
Three days after dropping their first Rio Hondo League game to visiting San Marino (4-1), Monrovia handed La Canada its first league loss (4-1) at LCHS.
The game featured two five-win pitchers in James Quesenbery and Joe Bell.
Quesenbery improved to 6-0 after going the distance and allowing an unearned run on six hits.
He walked one and fanned seven Spartans.
Sixty-nine of his 99 pitches were strikes, and Quesenbery lowered his ERA to 0.82.
Austin Loughrin walked and his RBI double in the bottom of the seventh got La Canada on the scoreboard.
Finn Flowerhogan reached on an error in the seventh, and he scored on the Loughrin double.
Joe Bell doubled, while Benji Geller, Brandon Mohaghegh and Adyn Chidester had one single apiece.
Bell got the loss after allowing four runs on three hits over six innings of work.
Bell issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
Scott Burns went the top of the seventh, and he fanned a pair of Wildcats.
With the game scoreless, Kaleb Ellison led off the top of the third with a solo home run.
Three innings later, one of the SGV area’s leading hitters, Troy Grise, launched a three-run HR and the Wildcats led 4-0.
Greyson Lorenzini was hit by pitch in the sixth and scored.
Evan Huelster singled in the win.
Up next: The Spartans travel to Alhambra next Saturday at noon.
The Wildcats host Temple City on Tuesday, April 7th at 3:30.
